How much does it cost to register with an Agency and do I have to pay a fee if I am hired into a role via an agency?

  • TLCiTStaff offers a free service to job seekers.

Why do employers use an agency?

  • Employers use agencies to identify and interview suitable candidates who match their vacancy on key selection criteria such as technical and industry experience, salary expectations, location, qualifications, key skills etc.

If I forward my résumé will you forward my details to prospective clients without my permission?

  • No – TLCiTStaff will always contact you to describe the employment opportunity available, confirm your interest and salary expectation, and receive your permission in writing prior to forwarding to any employer. You can rest assured with TLC ITS that your résumé will not be forwarded to any employer that you have not specifically requested it to be forwarded to.

Should I apply for contracting or permanent roles?

  • If you prefer a stable working environment, enjoy getting to really know your team mates, and like to see projects through to completion then you would probably enjoy permanent employment over contracting employment.

  • If you enjoy new challenges, meeting new people and new environments then contracting may be well suit you. Contracting means that instead of having a permanent position in an organisation, the contractor is engaged to work on a certain project, for a specified period of time. When the project is completed, the contractor is either renewed or the contractor then finishes up.

Why do clients request contactors?

  • Some organisations do not have fully functional IT departments, and may outsource their IT function or hire contractors to perform these functions. Other organisations may use contractors exclusively for project work, which may include programming or support functions.

  • Over the past few years there has been a growing trend for organisations to focus on their 'core business' - that is, to concentrate efforts on the issues that create value for their customers and shareholders. To provide the skills they require in a timely cost effect manner, organisations hire contractors for the duration of a specific project.

Why do organisations use Agencies for contracting and not advertise direct?

  • For the majority of contracting positions, an agency acts as intermediary between the contractor and the organisation, to match the contractor to the job and to simplify administration. The agency has the expertise to quickly identify suitable candidates and has the ability to payroll large projects. It is impractical for many organisations to retain the skills required on a permanent payroll.

Don’t organisations pay an additional premium for contractors?

  • Yes, but organisations are prepared to pay an extra premium to have the flexibility to employ resources for certain periods of time to deliver certain technologies and skills.
